List of eligible creators

http://joeshusterawards.com/story.asp?storyID=108

So yesterday I posted our first attempt at the 2007 eligible creator and works published list for the Nominating Committee to consider. We've already received our first set of updates and revisions (thanks Jason Truong!), so as we go along this month we're looking to continually update and embellish the list until we've got a proper cross section of what is out there. I've added lots of addendums on the page the link takes you to - Anthology information will added soon (probably later this week).

What we've got to start are Artists, Cartoonists and Writers. Publishers and Colourists will be added to a future update as we complete gathering information on them. Webcomics is being handled separately by our new Webcomics Coordinator - we'll be introducing him soon.

The French Canadian creators/works should also be ready soon.

We're aiming for a February Nominating Committee start and they'll have two months to consider.

The big change that I alluded to late last year is that for the categories of Artist, Writer, Publisher, Cartoonist and Colourist we are going with the Nominating Committee / Jury format. Jury members (tba) will receive copies of all nominated works. We think public vote was important for the formative years, but the feedback we've received from creators is that they want to make sure that every nominated work is given due consideration over the popularity contest format of public vote.

We're not completely eliminating public vote - there will still be the Favourite English Language Canadian, French Language Canadian and International Creator categories to vote for as these are definitely "popularity contest" type awards. Public vote should start on those categories in early February and people will have until May to vote. Start date will depend on when our site updates for the process can be completed and will kick off with a press release. We're adding to those the Cover award - we'll be selecting a sampling of what the CCBCAA internal vote think are some of the best covers done by Canadians in 2007 then it will be up to the people to choose from those or suggest an alternative from an eligible list. The specifics will be worked out by the time that we start the public voting.

Shusters

I think the new judging format is a great change. No matter what there will always be a problem with bias or accuracy. However, I think when a jury/panel decides then the awards become more about the work than a popularity contest.

This is awesome news.

Re: Shusters

That was our feeling as well. With the popular vote people are voting for their favourites that they have read, seen or just know, while the jury will be exposed to all of the Nominated works and provide an opinion based on all they've encountered.
